About Janis

Janis Bio.

Born in Oil City, PA my first site of water was Lake Erie when I was two years of age.  Per my mother, I began screaming at the site of such a large body of water.

When I was six, we became members of the YMCA where my brothers and I learned to swim and then joined the swim team.

My early boating experiences were canoeing the Allegheny and Clarion Rivers in north western PA.

I really loved the water and always wanted a house on some body of water to retire on.

After college I moved to Cincinnati where I began work for ORSANCO (The Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission).  I was responsible for monitoring the Ohio River for organic spills.  I spent 5 years as a “River Rat”, but then wanted to try a different opportunity to use my chemistry degree.  I began employment as an analytical chemist for a flavoring company.  Before I knew it was 30 years and I had the chance to retire early and grabbed it.

Chris and I purchased land in Kentucky on the Ohio River and built a house.

During this time we upgraded from canoes and friends with boats to having our own Sea Doo’s – then a Bennington Pontoon.

In 2009, we had the opportunity to lease and manage a small marina – boat launch and campground for Boone County, Kentucky.   Chris retired early and I worked at the flavor company until July 31 2015.  I figured after 30 years, I needed to retire so that my “someday” would be here now.

Looking forward, I feel so much better without the work stress, and I am pretty good at doing nothing.  In fact, I found I have a real talent for loathing.

We always said someday we would take a boat on the Great Loop and now it is here!
